(as in they are influenced by bands influenced by H.O.D.) never got the chance to see em live myself so you are one lucky fellow! I have to say that i never liked anything they did outsiode the timeframe of this post it just doesn't "do it" for me! I too like that final Peel Session they did - Peel described it at the time as them being "in a more pastoral mood" - although never bothered with 'Seed State'. I think it only came out on CD at a time when I only bought records.
I remember travelling from Manchester to Bradford to see them once and having a brief chat afterwards. Guitarist Eric Jurenovski seemed genuinely aghast. He was, like: "What? You came all the way from Manchester to watch *us*??" Ha ha!
Thanks again,
J.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9112004118520930596.post-16966573610703958092014-10-01T08:55:37.272+01:002014-10-01T08:55:37.272+01:00Thanks for that Dan I have done a little research ...Thanks for that Dan I have done a little research and this would appear to be the final line up of HOD that recorded "Seed State" and according to the BBC John Peel archive that it's drum machine on this but it's hard to tell from the audio quality on the vid however you are 100% correct that these 4 songs appear nowhere else I personally don't like anything beyond "Dustbowl" myself I felt they kinda lost it after that they didn't have that dark, threatening edge and were leaning a bit more towards that whole "grebo" style that was popular during that era, these songs however are a bit better than what would follow still not really as good as their previous work but thank you so much for the link it's something I'd never heard or been aware of and I am always up for that especially when it's a band as great as these guys were. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share that link,

Cheers,

Dave B.Dave Ballantynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10962015895260884375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9112004118520930596.post-8526693127644417142014-09-28T04:38:28.464+01:002014-09-28T04:38:28.464+01:00there's a 1989 peel session of tracks not on a...there's a 1989 peel session of tracks not on any other recording. they happen to be my absolute favourite h.o.d. songs!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQSXpUPdQg4Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14154457897293630392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9112004118520930596.post-8691331524263887862013-12-02T11:45:05.882+00:002013-12-02T11:45:05.882+00:00Thanks anonymoous I wasn't aware of the E.M.I....Thanks anonymoous I wasn't aware of the E.M.I. connection I did suss out at the time that H.O.D.I.C.A. was head of david live at the I.C.A. tho again could be wrong on that one, my main annoyance with it is that back in the late 80's pre-internet I was a HUGE Head Of David fan and when i came across the HODICA album in a record shop for £8 (by todays standards at least double that) I snapped it up immediatley as it was the only HOD record i didn't have, However I was mightily dissapointed to have a side of muffled live NOISE on one side and a recording of a laughing bag on the other which as a fan i found to be like a giant fuck you to someone like me who at 16/17 years old £8 was about 1/4 of my weekly wage! I had forgiven them for it over the years but at the time i was so furious as if the noise side wasn't bad enough to have a whole side of laughing on the flip was ever so slightly nasty! But thanks for letting me know that i guess the noise/laughing was a giant fuck you to EMI but however was there any need to press it up and sell it to fans? as it was released by Blast first "bootleg" imprint NOT and not EMI so who's bearing the brunt of the joke? EMI? or people like me who bought it? even to this day i find it unlistenable! Cheers for the info,

Dave B.Dave Ballantynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10962015895260884375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9112004118520930596.post-62725944935666030652013-11-30T12:22:41.892+00:002013-11-30T12:22:41.892+00:00"H.O.D.I.C.A." was a dig at EMI, the alb..."H.O.D.I.C.A." was a dig at EMI, the album is full of sampled EMI artists, the gig was part of a festival which EMI demanded the recorded rights for all the artists so HOD made the most EMI unfriendly noise they could, I think it's great but it's not for the faint heartedAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9112004118520930596.post-68240536212799393902013-05-08T20:34:24.553+01:002013-05-08T20:34:24.553+01:00Yeah I have fazes with them where I really like th...Yeah I have fazes with them where I really like them and then I'm not fussed. I'm pretty OCD on completism but I sometimes drift with bands and give up. I never knew also about the live album (sounds like I didn't miss out.) The vinyl will be up in the loft somewhere rotting away making any house moving more laborious if we ever move again. Maybe I should do what I hate seeing and sell a bit on ebay...I just can't see me going back to vinyl ever even though I stuck with it longer than most. I need to go backwards and make some comments elsewhere.67 Punkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05495186651678774275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9112004118520930596.post-58833152497955035722013-05-08T08:56:05.121+01:002013-05-08T08:56:05.121+01:00No problem G.R. glad you got sommat from the post ...No problem G.R. glad you got sommat from the post they are a killer band and i don't think that they have been given as much kudos as many other bands from that era in fact their music isn't even available except second hand now and the "Saveana mixes" & "White elephant" have never been issued on CD it's just criminal with a band this unique and great!
Dave B.
Dave Ballantynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10962015895260884375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9112004118520930596.post-28806783125250783552013-05-07T23:54:13.408+01:002013-05-07T23:54:13.408+01:00Cheers Dave I'd never heard the Saveana Mixes ...Cheers Dave I'd never heard the Saveana Mixes and I much prefer the version of Andrenacide than the one on the album67 Punkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05495186651678774275noreply@blogger.com
