A small NEUROSIS

So as many of you reading this blog may know Neurosis are pretty much my favourite contemporary band (that means they are top of my favourites list of bands that are still going!) However They mean far too much to me to upload any of their still easily available back catalog ** but i just couldn't do this blog any longer without putting something up by them. Not being a band who have any unreleased or particularly rare stuff and their whole back catalog of albums are easily available on Legal/Illegal download and CD what can I give you that wouldn't do them any harm, get me busted and would suit my blog policies???

OK well some of you youngsters may not know before they were the mighty gods of apocalyptic intelligent metal these guys were pretty much an above average and original "crust" punk band this is evidenced on their 1st 2 albums "Pain Of Mind" from 1987 and "The Word As Law" from 1990 but between those albums they did a 7" for the awesome Lookout Records called "Abberation" which has the same sound as those albums and has never seen a full release on CD, in 1990 they also did a Live 7" for German live album specialists "Your Choice" records called "Empty" featuring 2 live tracks one a cover of Joy Divisions "Day Of The Lords" and the other a live version of "The Choice" from "The Word as Law" album and in the early 90's they contributed "Saturday night Holocaust" to Dead kennedys tribute "Virus 100",  "Hear Nothing, See Nothing Say Nothing" to Discharge tribute 7" "Discharged- From Home Front To War Front" and a little later (1999) they also contributed "Children Of The Grave" to the "In These Black Days" series of split Sabbath tribute 7"'s on Hydra Head Records! As far as hard to get Neurosis stuff goes that pretty much is IT beleive me i've looked there's no demo's unreleased album tracks etc trust me as i have EVERYTHING they have done that is available!

So here i present you with a small file containing both the EP's mentioned above plus the 3 comp tracks it's not a lot and maybe not the best of their material but at least it satisfies my need to get them on my blog and rounds up their hard to find stuff nice and neat in one easy to get file! **= Yeah i know that may sound hypocritical as I do post a lot of discographies and releases of bands who are still going, However Neurosis are all guys my age and older (40's+) they have day jobs and in some cases large families to provide for and Neurosis while I'm sure makes them some income would seem to be something that is borne more out of  sheer love, passion, blood, sweat and tears than a desire to make money! This may be the case for any of the bands i have posted before and my posting their stuff doesn't mean I respect them any the less or love their music but all i can say in my defence is it's fucking NEUROSIS man!

Jingo De Lunch

Jingo De Lunch were a "hardcore" band from Berlin formed in 1987 they had a long musical career releasing a live album as recently as 2011 however I'm only concerning this post with their Independent early years preceding them signing to a major in 1990. So I discovered this band through a friend of mine he had had a tape from someone and there were 2 songs from their debut album "Perpetuum Mobile" on it. we had recently discovered "i against i" by Bad Brains (We had yet to discover "The Roir Tape" or "Rock For Light"!!!) and we fucking loved it and so... this band Jingo De Lunch seemed to be taking their influence from this very album!!! So he got the LP eventually and we were both blown away. Although this band were definitely taking that influence from "i against i" they had taken the best bits!!! the chugging rifferama and lightning quick super tight guitarwork but with a healthy dose of rock thrown in there, Listening to them now the Bad Brains thing is still there but i hear so much more to em now i have a wider frame of reference! This considerable Bad brains feel was not harmed by the barking and snarling and sometimes brilliantly tuneful voice of  dreadlocked American Ex Pat Yvonne Ducksworth! These were a great band tight well rehearsed and with a really fucking ROCKING sound! So onto the music....

First up is debut album "Perpetuum Mobile" from 1987 "Bad brains "i Against i" had been out barely a year when it's influence was already being felt all the way in Germany! Whilst this album has it's influence written all over it i will say that there's no direct ripping off only in the sound and feel of the music and Yvonnes unique take on H.R.'s style! There's shades of fat early AC/DC style riffage (think the good Bon Scott stuff that makes your head start nodding instantly!) lightning fast guitarwork, tight rhythm section and each one of them in total sync! This is an unbeleivably confident and accomplished debut from an apparent "hardcore" band on We Bite records a notoriously great hardcore label from Germany who released MANY crucial albums over the years and all this from a band barely a year old!!!! Taken from my CD of this 320kbps

Next up "Cursed Earth" 10" (1988) and "Axe To Grind" (1989) now these were taken off a good quality VBR download of "The Independent years" Comp on Boss Tuneage  but when I broke the CD Up into it's parts because 1: It contained Cursed Earth 10" on CD in it's entiritey and it was right in the middle so i stripped it out and retagged it, However when i did the same for the album "Axe to Grind" i realised some tracks were missing from it so I've added these from another download of the album so it's of variable bit rate but i've retagged it and numbered it all tracks present and in correct order! and as usual i don't post rubbish quality stuff no matter how good it is! Cursed Earth contains 4 originals and 3 cover versions the 4 originals are Jingo De Lunch business as usual opener "Cursed Earth" being particularly good with a little HEAVY funkiness in the mid section! The covers say a lot and might give you more of an idea where this band are coming from "Cowboy Song" By Thin Lizzy "Pay To Cum" by Bad Brains and "Fuck You" by D.O.A. So even a year later the bad brains and hardcore influence is prevalent! This is a great EP and i'm glad it came out on that "Independent years" Comp as I had never heard it before! However I did used to have... "Axe to Grind" I always thought it wasn't as good as the first album when i had it originally but having revisited it it in recent years it's actually every bit as good as the first album the playing has however progressed to another level and with this comes more flashy lightning fast guitarwork and the rock influence is heavier here than on the first album but when i say rock you do know i mean the good stuff that even the very jaded can't help but stroke a beard look chuffed and start nodding to! All in all a 100% fucking solid follow up!

So that's your lot this is great stuff and i feel this band are largely overlooked and they were so fucking talented and enjoyable and al round fucking great from 1987 - 89 memorable songs great hooks cool as fuck and just rocking!These albums need more attention than they get that's why they are here! Plus they are hard to find online and I know when i tried to find "Perpetuum Mobile" I got so fucked off looking i bought it!!!  Oh and a personal opinion I could have maybe seen these albums being on SST at the time they were released think their unusual approach may have been enough but maybe a bit too rocking??

KYLESA

So i really wanted to do a Kylesa post as i'd already covered Damad & Karst (HERE) and seeing as how they are one of my favourite "heavy" bands and being the OCD freak that i am i almost uploaded everything but seeing as how i'm trying to give you things that are a bit rarer and i didn't want to be one of a million links to the same Kylesa albums and didn't want to get in trouble for upping "in print" material plus they're quite popular these days so.... here's my Kylesa post!

Right I'm sure i shouldn't have to explain but they were a super heavy band emerged out of the ashes of Damad and from the "Crust" political punk scene to develop a style all their own progressing with each album into the post metal popular monster they are today! That's all you're getting if you don't know Kylesa then i'd be surprised that you're reading this blog! so here's your files

EP & COMP TRACKS does what it sez on the tin wraps all the non album bits and bobs that weren't covered by Kylesa's recent excellent archive trawler "From The Vaults Vol 1" so you can be sure as shit most of this is set to make Vol 2 anyway! so far they remain non album bonus stuff!!! included in the file are.... Debut 7" on Scorched earth policy ("Delusions On Fire"/"Crutches") 110 Degree Heat Index 7" The Sides of their split 7"'s With Momento Mori & Victims and also their tracks from the Syd Barret tribute, The EYEHATEGOD tribute and a pink floyd cover from "Falling Down" Compilation. (Taken mostly from my own CD's and paid downloads all top quality)

Kylesa debut self titled album this is some seriously heavy shit and barely shows a picture of the band they would become later this is thick heavy as shit stuff with more in common with hardcore albeit with crushing mettalic riffage! This is pretty much out of print unless you wanna pay a lot for it or order it direct from Prank records then you can be happy that i have uploaded you a 320kbps rip of it here for you!

Split CD W/ Cream Abdul Babar  This is where the wisescreen sound of Kylesa first began to appear, on this their side of this split we have "Curse Of Lost Days" 1  track split into 5 movements this is awesome stuff a far more considered band but still with that heavy bludgeon to hand although this definitely sees them experimenting more with their riffage and also using more prevelant keyboards and noise to link up the tracks I think this is a vastly overlooked piece of Kylesa's music and is one of my favourite recordings of theirs criminal that it's out of print tho fairly easy to get a hold of on ebay or such! again uploaded from my CD at 320kbps.

Blasting Concept (The Band!!!)

Blasting Concept have been around since 2009 but I only heard of them last year but I'm glad to have caught up with them! they are from the Santa Barbara / Oxnard area of California. All i can say about Blasting Concept is they appeared after Annihilation Time broke up but seem to have thought there's a gap in the market goooooo! they have wholesale ripped off A.T's sound and image to the complete MAX!!!! That sounds really bad but it's true i heard the name and related it to the SST comp "The Blasting Concept" and was interested enough to do some digging and i managed to unearth their 2 releases to date a 12" and an 7" and this is basically Annihilation Time's sound but a different band I really can't see how or why they would do it but you get the exact same 70's rock meets 80's california hardcore on a skateboard with a beer and a bong! Annihilation Time

This is the first part of 4 related posts not neccesarily by band but definitely by music! First up is Annihilation Time formed in 2001 from the ashes of X625X Records thrashers Gordon Solie Motherfuckers, A.T. had a few line up changes mainly in the vocal department 1st album having Fred Hammer on vocals but from the Bad Reputation EP till the end vocal duties were handled by Jimmie Rose. Anyway so take a core band of beer drinking bong smoking punk metalheads with a serious Black Flag/BLA'ST! obsession, add in some healthy 70's rock/metal flashiness and you got Annihilation Time, For me A.T. are one of those bands who totally take me back to the old school days of being into hardcore was more like punk y'know, beers, skating, smoking, rebellion & FUCK YOU! middle finger raised high! What I mean is whilst having a seriously crunching sound and plenty of fat rock riffage and they still retain enough balls out agression and a harder edge but they tend to have a less political more punk rock kinda stance where you know the band are  pissed but at the shit of their daily lives rather than specific political targets which is cool for a change to just enjoy something musically without having to be too concerned about what they are saying! I think seeing these guys live woulda been a great experience! So I feel like I'm kinda making Annihilation Time sound a bit lame here best way i can do this is give you some idea of what they sound like so i hear elements of the following in their sound Germs, Black Flag, BLA'ST!, AC/DC, The Stooges, Thin Lizzy, Circle Jerks, Sabbath,MC5, Poison Idea the list goes on and i doubt they would diasagree with any of those! And there's not a bad band among them!

So onto the music 1st up is debut album "Annihilation Time" and with that logo and a Ray Pettibon cover you knew this was gonna be awesome.....

This is probably the most hardcore of the 3 albums having that hungry ferocious 1st album hardcore band feel! There's still rockin middle 8's a plenty and even tho this is the most Black Flag/BLA'ST! sounding as well it manages to stay mainly away from the usual flag/BLA'ST! pilfering and has it's own style going for it a fucking great debut! But first and last for original vocalist Fred hammer.. Step up Jimmie Rose... So a new EP and a breaking in of new singer for the "Bad Reputation" EP 4 Tracks 3 new and one sterling hardcore cover of Thin Lizzy's "Bad Reputation" Of the 3 originals there's not much to pick from them they are all good however opening track "Fast Forward To the Gore" has a fucking tasty intro which is pure Greg Ginn meets Tony Iommi!  Jimmie Rose is a more than capable replacement and the band feels more solid on this and subsequent releases Next was "Annihilation Time II" what a follow up!! unfortunately whilst it's a great album it suffers a bit from a tinny production the songs are great just the sound is a bit thin and less crushing than before maybe just down to budget production this is hardcore after all! However thankfully the tunes are so great you won't care what I've said! Real progression from first album this album whilst tight and hardcore most of the way through manages to hit on some great slow jam mid sections pillaging the best of scorching garage/stoner riffage! Never letting up track after track of killer skate trash fucking punk rock! Plus the aforementioned "Fast forward To the Gore" gets a slick new version as well! next up was the 3 track "Cosmic Unconciousness" EP only available on 7" or on the rare and limited band released "Incomplete Discography" It's a shame this hasn't seen a proper CD release as it's a killer EP the title track has a great sample then an awesome rock/metal intro then into the scorching sunburnt fucking punk riffs classic stuff and the Flag/BLA'ST! motif is definitely prevelant again! the other 2 tracks the re-recording of "Annihilate" from the debut album & "Feel It! are both blistering Annihilation Time business as usual! Lastly is "Annihilation Time III : Tales Of The Ancient Age" This is still as great as the other 2 albums however i have to say that on this one there is no masking the fact that "Rock" is first and foremost for these guys now whilst the chugging fat skate punk riffage is still plentiful there is a far more accomplished display of musicianship going on and there's a lot more rock descends and soloing and shit on this album than before although it had been creeping through all the way along! Anyway this is still good if you liked the other stuff you will no question like this album it's just a progression from the last and these guys have developed some serious chops but you still get beaten around the head with the punk rock with blitzes like the 1min 49 sec "Jonestown"! Jimmie Rose is definitely finding his feet and has become far more confident especially on a track like "Bald-Headed Woman" which is just pure rock fury man!!!

So that's it a great discography by an utterly awesome band if you haven't heard them and you like the stuff i post on here that doesn't have "Crust" in the description and more towards the ones that say "SST" then this is definetley for you! All ripped from my own CD's at 320kbps except for "Cosmic Unconciousness" which is from a 192kbps rip of the Discography CD.

LARK'S TONGUE

Lark's Tongue are a new band featuring members of post metal titans MINSK  I decided that they were too good not to bring your attention to them properly so Below in the bold type is the description of the band and the music by the band themselves taken from their facebook page......

Lark’s Tongue formed in 2010 of seasoned, like-minded travelers—influenced by everything, but ultimately inspired by the likes of Codeine, Hawkwind, Swervedriver, Earth, The Verve and Slowdive. Hailing from the Midwest, Chris Bennett (Minsk), Jeff Hyde (Minsk), Nate Lucas (Deceased Priest), Jon Wright (juanGoblin) and Andrew Sledd (Men of Fortune) came together to create heavy psychedelic space rock with an emphasis on harmony and narrative. Layers of harmonies sail atop beguiling squalls of guitar, heavy psychedelia as means of expansion, bittersweet; for unlocking this deliberation of tension and release, a sweet chimera of imperial distortion and ethereal subtleties sings of hidden truths to hotwire the established dreamworlds.

Whilst i agree with this slightly abstract description and the influence of the bands mentioned i have to say i have heard NOTHING like Lark's Tongue before there are so many familiar elements, Chiming guitars, Epic Builds, Indie Rock flourishes dramatic keyboard passages but maybe all in one song! They aren't all over the place with different styles they manage to combine all the elements of their influences into a sound that is altogether original whilst has just enough familiar touches to hook you in BIG time, As well as the bands they themselves say are an influence I also hear little touches of, American Analog Set, Queens Of The Stone Age, Low, The most melodic parts of ISIS, some stoner rock, but still not derivative in any way! i just can't say enough good things about this new and REFRESHINGLY original band. They offer all their releases to date free on bandcamp those would be a 7" a Split LP with Across Tundras and a split LP with Men Of Fortune but they also did an amazing 3 track demo CD as well which i've managed to find online so i have packaged you up the complete works to date of Lark's Tongue in one file it's all taken from direct band approved downloads so this file is shit hot quality and along with the great crystal clear production throughout this is 10 tracks and 70 mins that is beyond essential for anyone looking for something really fresh and original.

HEAD OF DAVID

Head Of David (pictured above with a long haired Justin Broadrick (on the right) in 1986) existed from about 1984 - 1992 and were one of those bands like Loop (See my Post HERE ) That only seemed to exist in the 80's! I always put Head Of David into the industrial category but tho they have some touches of what would later be termed Industrial they really aren't, they don't have that "machine" like stop and start and clinical coldness of industrial music, they had quite a unique sound it's hard to pigeonhole them so I'm not gonna try but they are pretty heavy with a seriously Gnarly growling bass sound Pounding drums and LOUD heavy kinda psychedlic guitars! Think Bikers, 60's road movies Black Leather and some slight S+M overtones and a general dark and grungy sound (grungy as in dirty/sludgy not the crap Seattle music) and you're about there! I've also heard them described as "A Protoypical Godflesh" which wouldn't be entirely unfair as they had Justin Broadrick as a drummer for a while and he formed Godflesh after his tenure with Head of David and i definitely think he took a huge influence from the guitar style/sound of H.O.D. with him! So in short think Godflesh but not as industrial and Loop but WAYYY heavier and more intense! Right if that hasn't confused the fuck out of you onto what i present here.....

Debut 12" "Dogbreath" from 1986 contains 4 tracks which opens with the utterly POUNDING "Smears" and continues to bust your head over 20 mins with 3 original tracks and closes with a slow grinding take on Suicide's "Rocket USA" (Also covered by Loop jeez guys Suicide had loads more good songs than just this one) This was later released as one half of 'LP' (and later 'CD') backed with their debut Peel session however i have given you "Dogbreath" On it's own and saved the Peel session for later (Keep reading...) This is taken from a 320kbps CD rip (but not mine)

Next up is debut album proper "Dustbowl" released in 1988 this album was the debut of Justin K Broadrick on drums recorded by Steve Albini and one of the albums that helped him make his name, This is a great album some of their best songs are on here and tracks like "Skin Drill" & "Peirced All Over" carry on from where "Dogbreath" left off but with a slightly cleaner production but not losing ANY of their menancing sound! In fact track by track this is just a great album there's absolutely no filler and is the sound of a band firing on all 6 cylinders and at their peak. The file is taken from a 192kbps rip possibly vinyl rip but it sounds pretty damn good to me even tho it has great Albini production it is a quiet recording, the quality is there you just need to turn it up!

Just after "Dustbowl" a 12" of alternate mixes of the album tracks was released  "The Saveana Mixes" This contains not vastly different versions of "Bugged" "108" & "Adrenicide" from the album and one cut not featured on the album "Bad Times" as i said not vastly different from the album versions but with maybe a slightly more dubbed out production giving the songs a bit of a different feel and a bit more space than Albini's tight production style, even tho 3 out of the 4 tracks are repeats of album tracks it's most definitley worth hearing this. This was only released on vinyl so this is taken from a vinyl rip but again quality is fine!

Saving, in my opinion the best till last you get "White Elephant" This was released as a limited vinyl/mail order only release rounding up the other 2 Peel sessions they did (The first one having been previously released as one half of 'LP'/'CD' as i mentioned above) however i felt all 3 peel sessions should be heard together in their correct running order so Instead of the original 2 Session version this is my personal "Dave's Expanded Version" so it is now a complete Peel sessions (Note I have since been informed of the fact that they did one further peel session after these 3 however that is during the time they were on their last legs as a band and in my opinion not very good) featuring their 2 sessions from April and September 1986 and their 3rd and last from just before the "Dustbowl" album in July 1987 which debuts 4 tracks from the forthcoming album. I think this works better as a complete set of the 3 sessions chronologically and re-tagged with all the info so it runs smooth and won't confuse your media player. 6 of the 7 songs from the first 2 sessions were only recorded on these sessions and never re-recorded anywhere else. The second session however is the one that fucking floors me completely Opening with the super fucking heavy "Jack Nicholson" which is lyrically a tribute to "The Shining" and totally manages to evoke the feel of the movie i.e. dark and menancing! You then get a Peel version of "Pierced All Over" which has the same heavy sound and is far superior to the later recorded album version and closing with the slow burning crawl of  "Metal Texas Psych-Out" these 3 tracks are the BEST of Head of David in my opinion and definitely my favourite of their recordings! If you are unfamiliar with Head Of David I suggest you start with this album it's a perfect representation of their sound and contains great (if not better) versions of tracks later recorded for "Dustbowl" and as i said what i consider to be their best work.

So There ya go this is not a "Discography" as such because I have ommited "official" bootleg "H.O.D.I.C.A."  which is supposed to be them live at the I.C.A. in London but this album contains 1 side of them live which is a completely atrocious quality audience recording and  it's just one big mush through which almost no "songs" are discernible at all and the flip side of the album contains a whole side of a recording of one of those "Laughing Bags" you used to get in joke shops in the 70's & 80's where you press it and the bag does this insane tinny clown laugh. Why they bothered making this is a mystery to me because it's an utter waste of time I bought it at the time thinking I'd scored a winner only to be really dissapointed, if it's a joke I don't get it and it was an expensive joke on me at the time! Also missing is their later album from 1992 "Seed State" and it's single "Soul Spark" reason being that by this time there was nothing left of the amazing sound they had been doing up till then in fact it's so terrible i don't even have a download of it. What I'm basically saying this is all The Head Of David that is worth listening to and you can definitely bank on that! Go check out this utterly amazing, Influential, unique and totally overlooked band... Amazing!

I originally posted this back in Febuary when I did my spate of "And Now For Something Completely Different..." Posts but decided it needed re-visiting here's why....

When i first got a hold of a download of their debut cassette it was from "No Beast So Fierce NYC" Blog and i posted their link but yesterday i found it to be a dead link so decided to re-up it myself, whilst doing this i decided to do a bit of surfing and find out something more about them. Originally what I knew was that this project was started by 2 members of Spanish crust band Ekkaia namely Pablo C. and Jorge Olson De Abreu sadly Jorge passed away right before the release of the cassette so I assumed that would be the last i heard of them... however today i found out that the project continues as i came across their bandcamp page and they have a new album available for download (HERE) and it is coming out in an edition of 350 CD's and an unspecified amount of vinyls. I was more than pleased to find this out as the download of the cassette pictured above has been a firm favourite of mine since I first heard it. I originally downloaded it cos i thought the cover was cool (I like owls!) and the description of the music sounded interesting. I was not prepared for what i heard in the slightest, this is some of the most truly emotive and beautiful music i have ever heard and NOTHING like anything else I own.
Mostly played on Spanish guitar with a minimal accompaniment of traditional instruments, some strings and occasional female vocals along with the male vocals (there is nothing electric on their music at all) This has a sound that is at once specific to their geography and traditional whilst at the same time having a completely contemporary feel. Unfortunately i don't know Spanish and because it's downloaded i don't know if translations are even available but the lyrics are sung beautifully and passionately which makes me feel the subject matter must be something really close to their hearts, The vocals are in a traditional yet contemporary style, what i'm getting at is that although the music is clear and well produced it could have just as easy been recorded in a cabin on a Spanish hillside 100 years ago or recorded in a studio 5 years ago. I lack the descriptive terms for music this good and this beautiful, I have very wide ranging tastes in music but I could not understand how music as well played and as good as this could not affect anyone with a beating heart no matter what your personal tastes in music are.

So onto your links I've been a bit bad here i managed to find a download of their latest album free (they charge 7 Euros for a download of the new album which is about £6/$9 which i don't have at the mo) so I'm giving you that plus the 2009 self titled cassette and their 3 track demo from 2007. Even though their new album "Deixademe Morrer no Bosque" is short of one member from the original duo none of the passion or beauty of the music has been lost and it  is equal in quality of musicianship and songwriting to the cassette and I've only listened to it now whilst doing this post.

Now the bitrates for these files is quite low (192kbps for the tape 128kbps for the new album and various for the demo) however due to the fact that it's acoustic music the quality is absolutely great I've listened to all of it whilst doing this and it's all crystal clear. I don't normally put things up with bitrates as low as this but I feel that with the new album being limited to 350 copies that more than 350 people have to hear this music! So i strongly encourage you to go buy a download of this album instead of taking it from here free but I promised to only provide free music on this blog so i leave it up to your own conscience what you do, but I've already enquired about buying this on CD if it's too expensive I'll be buying a download of it as soon as possible as i feel this artist really deserves my support i just couldn't wait till i had some free cash to hear the album,also note when i do get a CD or a higher bitrate download i will NOT be updating the link if you're fussy like me about bitrates then you should go support them at the link i put up at the beginning.

Please swallow your musical pride and give this music a listen if you don't like it you've lost nothing and if you do you will have discovered something very obscure and one of those very rare musical things that come along in life that affect you profoundly. An utterly astounding band.

Mountain Of Judgement

So didn't take me long to decide on some new posts eh?? I forgot about this album until i was browsing files for some inspiration! so here you have the one and only album by Mountain Of Judgement these guys are a "stoner" band from Carolina U.S. this as i say is their one and only album as 2 members are busy with their other Bands U.S. Christmas and Hour of 13. Now don't let the "Stoner" tag put you off I'm not a pothead any more and I can still enjoy this music so owning a bong and a Sleep t-shirt are not essentials for digging this shit maaaaaan (Though it certainly wouldn't impair the experience ha ha)!
This is a great album that stands head and shoulders over the fucking MYRIAD of "stoner" bands out there and I'm kinda glad that it is a one off thing. This project was a bit of a stop start thing they formed the band in 2005 did some recording went off to work with their main bands and when they came back to the original recording it was decided to re record much of it and this album contains the second recording session (tracks 1 -6) and 3 songs from the original session (tracks 7 & 8 as number 7 is two tracks) 2 of the latter 3 tracks are original versions of tracks re-recorded so you only get 6 original tracks and 2 repeats if you get me? but this is irrlevant when it comes to music of this quality. This is Stoner music of the highest quality and as far as I'm concerned is right up there with Sleep, Kyuss and the like, this has all of the hallmarks of great stoner music with none of the blandness of your run of the mill grunge meets sabbath bollocks, Great production, Thick heavy guitars and awesome fucking monolithic heavy riffage are prevalent throughout this album with the addition of the swirly US Christmas/Psychedelic style synths courtesy of Chad Davis (He's the MOJ member who is also in US Christmas and Hour of 13) and Scott Isenhour (Also a "floating" member of US Christmas) Anyway there's a far more informative page on Mountain of Judgement HERE which I suggest you read if you want to know more as I can't really describe this music without using the usual reference points like Sabbath etc and i don't want to make these guys sound unoriginal or boring I WANT you to download this album and see for yourself that not all stoner rock is generic as it has become these days go read the blurb at the link i supplied above then come back and download this utter fucking classic of an album.

DAMAD & KARST

A double whammy post for you here, Damad were a band from Savannah, Georgia in the U.S. that existed from 1994 - 2000 after they split up 3 members went on to form Kylesa, Unfortunately Damad and founding Kylesa member bassist Brian Duke died from an epeleptic seizure during the recording of Kylesas debut album and now  Philip Cope is the only remaining Kylesa member formerly with Damad.Vocalist and provider of artwork for Some of Damad and both of Kart's releases Victoria Scalisi and drummer Scott Duke went on to form Karst. Right that's the Kylesa connection dealt with onto Damad... So Damad had a very unique sound for the time, super heavy sludgy guitars mixed with a touch of industrial, and a big heaping of fat metal riffage, some spoken political samples and electronic noises add this Victoria's fucking brutal vocals and you had one serious wall of noise, though never quite reaching any serious "Fast" tempos their fanbase was mainly based in the political/crusty punk scene and along with Neurosis in my opinion are pretty much resposible for the sound that would later be known as Post Metal. Not that it's all just sheer noise there are some great structures and riffs plus some more "gentle" passages where Victoria is almost singing however if you're not familiar with the band i can assure you they are not an easy listen however if you have an ear for the more original and unique end of heavy music then this is definitely for you and the influence of Damad can be heavily felt in the early Kylesa recordings in fact when i heard Kylesa's first album i was convinced that they had just changed the name! Laura Pleasants of Kylesa and Victoria Scalisi being in my opinion the most BRUTAL female vocalists in heavy music!

So this is not quite a complete Damad discography I have been unable to obtain their "Dam Ol' Flag" EP their demo cassette or their Plus Equals Minus cassette (however i think 2 tracks off this were used on the "Rewind" 7" which is contained here) So here's what you get The First link DAMAD EP's contains their side of a split EP With In/Humanity, "Rewind/Manmade" 7" the "Centric" EP Their 3 Tracks from their Split CD with Meatjack and their track from the "Destroying Southern Tradition" Comp EP I have also uploaded first album "Rise And Fall" and 2nd and final album "Burning Cold". The Damad side of the Meatjack split and both albums are taken from my own CD's and are the usual 320kbps quality, the ep's and the comp track are from decent quality vinyl rips.All of these are great recordings theres not one bad track amongst them theres some great ideas and enough original and fuck off heavy riffage to satisfy any fan of heavy music!

So onto Karst... Karst as I've said were formed after Damad split and only released an EP and one album, both of which are not that far removed from what Damad were doing Victoria's vocals are still as brutal as they ever were except I would say whilst Karst are still heavy as shit their guitars are not quite as downtuned and sludgy as Damad's were and there's a slight upshift in tempo's as well making them a little more frantic and less of a bulldozer of sound like Damad overall there's a slightly more hardcore feel to the music (When i say hardcore think of the more original bands like Dead and Gone, Born Against, Econochrist etc) but overall i could not see anyone who liked Damad not liking Karst.

So I have uploaded both the "Receive the Void" EP and the "Vision Of Insane Hope" album for you both at 320kbps from my own CD's which is everything they did.

WOBURN HOUSE

Woburn House are an unusual German band, but before I start ...I have used the genre "post metal" quite a lot in the last few posts I've put up, if you're not sure what I mean by this i would describe it as... bands who do generally lengthy songs taking the structures of post rock music like Godspeed You Black Emperor or Mogwai meld it with the heaviness and brutal attack of metal. (there are a plethora of bands i  love that play what is known as post rock but most are very obscure and unknown I keep using Godspeed... and Mogwai for comparison as they are the best known and closest to what I'm trying to describe)  I would put Woburn House in that category however they employ a far lighter touch and much less heavy approach to their music than some of the Post metal bands i have mentioned in the rest of todays posts, In fact i would actually say they are closer to post rock than post metal it's too heavy to be the latter but too light to be the former!, They have lengthy songs which progress and build but where you'd normally expect an avalanche of extremely heavy guitar to kick in it doesn't, they play it quite differently building the songs with good playing and dynamics without resorting to overdriving everything for pummeling effect prefferring to gently lull the listener in, whilst they do have reasonably heavy guitars here and there you really couldn't put a "metal" tag to this as it's far too melodic (The only truly "heavy" parts are in 1st track off their 2nd album). That being said Woburn House produce some utterly stunning and beautiful music their singer has a great smooth,melodic and easy on the ear voice more akin to a stoner rock type style than the usual quiet/loud roaring growls also some of the guitar textures are kinda sharp and chiming with the sort of wall of guitar melodies you'd expect from someone like early Husker Du or early Wire and the pace is generally mid-tempo throughout but the different styles of drumming deployed keep it interesting and are essential in the building up of the songs along with keyboards applied minimally but with great effect along with what sounds like some quite political movie samples which are pretty cool though i don't know what movies they took them from but the delivery of the voices on the samples make me think they come from old movies or mayber documentaries or lectures?.I especially like the sample used at the beginning of "Oil" from their 2nd album. All these elements together makes for a really fucking nice sound all round fresh and well produced and not too hard on the ear! I hear so many little bits that remind me of other bands in their music not that they are directly ripping anyone off or stealing riffs or beats just little things that make me think hey that sounds like they've been listening to.... However these are again one of those truly original bands that are a bit harder to pigeonhole however i would also say they maybe have a very slight Jesu edge to them in places without being as bombastic and full on layers of guitar upon guitar as Jesu.

So I've uploaded the first 2 of their 3 albums to date simply because their 3rd and most recent album "Sleep Summer Storm" in my mind isn't a really BAD album per se it just seems they have veered far to far into melodic territory and lost the original edge they had on the first 2. So you have "Message To Ourselves Outside The Dreaming Machine" their debut 4 tracks clocking in at 54 minutes the songs are fairly lengthy I would say it's maybe very slightly heavier than 2nd album "Monstrous Manouveres In the Mushroom Maze" which has 5 tracks that clock in at 58 minutes total so again the songs are lengthy but theres not much to add to the descriptions i've given above both albums are equally as good but i generally play "Monstrous..." More than "Message..." maybe because I heard that one first. Give these a try because again no one seems to have heard of them and their albums are just fucking LUSH and brilliant! Go try something new....

INFAUST

Infaust from Germany (NOT to be confused with what appears to be a black metal band using the same name) existed in the late 90's they did one album a 12" inch and a split 7" with Japanese sludge/drone extremists Corrupted. Unfortunately i don't own the vinyl releases i do however have their one and only album "Muster" which i've uploaded here for you (320kbps from my own CD) again another obscure overlooked and forgotten band heres what it says on Discogs about them....

" INFAUST rose from the ashes of HYPOCRITICAL SOCIETY. INFAUST is influenced by english industrial hardcore like Godflesh or Pitchshifter), later Amebix and mid-time Neurosis. Their German lyrics are unfriendly ("Arschgeburt"), abstract ("Muster") and mostly work up their personal post-industrial depressions. "

I would pretty much agree with that except i don't  hear "Industrial" as much in the sound as i do a definite "Souls At Zero" Era Neurosis influence which was pretty unique at that time because back then Neurosis were the ONLY band that sounded like Neurosis!! I also definitely think they fit nicely with some of the darker less "crust" bands that were on Profane Existence around this time like Christdriver & State Of the Union. This one and only album was released on German Hardcore/crust label Epistrophy records and was originally played to me by Ste of Extinction Of Mankind (Cheers mate) my point in mentioning that is it will appeal to both fans of crust and post metal alike!

Anyway this is a great album and it's a shame they didn't do more i have the album for about 13 years and i still play it quite often it's a classic in my opinion and has stood the test of time as well. I will say that the production is a little quiet and lacks bottom end a little as well but i suppose they probably couldn't spend too much on recording it but if you turn up the bass and the volume just a little I'm sure you will find this to be a GREAT album!

Snowblood were a Scottish Post metal/Post Rock type band who existed from 2002 - 2009 who I know very little about (can you tell when I'm lacking information about bands cos I always start the post in the same way!!) I heard the name somewhere and then when i was ordering something from the awesomely cheap and friendly Super Fi records i discovered that Snowblood were releasing their final Self titled album on the Super Fi label and they were a Scottish band which appealed to me immensley!! and decided to check them out I was not disappointed, after hearing their 3rd and final album I tracked down the first 2 rare and hard to find albums on CD immediatley they are that good!
So I decided to upload their 3 albums for you unfortunately that's all there is from this amazing band so first album "The Human Tragedy" is a fairly short (36 mins) starts as a blistering exercise in Brutally heavy dischordant hardcore however as the album progresses the last 3 songs on the album mix up something not unlike someone like say Slint or Codiene with a dash of  Isis thrown in for the heavier parts beautifully sung almost angelic vocals come to the fore battling against the sheer screaming anguish of their usual vocal styles there is plenty of chug-heavy riffarama throughout the album but it's the mix of these with the quieter more melodic parts and sung vocals that seperated the band from the pack for me! second album "Being & Becoming" is a much longer affair at nearly twice the length of the debut (63 mins) this is where the band start to open up their sound and is my favourite of the 3 albums, again the formula is the same brutally heavy with screamed vocals against angelic vocals and slow melodious parts however on this album the slower more melodious parts tend to be more precvalent than the brutality and it's this use of more of those achingly beautiful vocals and semi acoustic guitars that really draws me to this album if it weren't for the heavier parts here and there this would without a doubt be a purely post-rock album. This is definitely in the same camp as some of the Neurosis/Isis type bands when they started to progress and use more melody and start singing rather than growling  (Think "In The Abscense Of Truth" Era Isis or Red Sparowes with Singing) Don't get me wrong there's enough contrast between the light/heavy sounds and enough howling anguished vocals to keep the most jaded heavy music fan satisfied! So 3rd and Final album "Snowblood" this contains only 4 tracks but clocks in at a hefty 62 minutes! The 2nd and 3rd tracks (all 4 tracks are untitled) almost forgoe the heavy parts altogether favouring the more epic building style 3rd track builds from effected semi acoustic and what sounds like a hammond organ to a wall of chiming dischordant guitar and screaming vocals then eases back down to the merest suggestion of guitar and the organ to the forefront! however 1st and 4th tracks are the opposite and feature little of the building quieter passages and go for a full on wall of utterly sludgy brutal heavy guitar and vocals!
All 3 albums are great (And uploaded from my own CD's at 320kbps of course) This is one fucking jawdropping and amazing band they never fail to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and tho there are many heavy bands doing the quiet/loud thing it all seems a bit samey to me but Snowblood stand out majorly from the crowd and were miles ahead of the explosion of all this kinda music! I genuinely think that instead of being influenced by other bands who play the same style of music these guys influences went well beyond the small world of "heavy" music (tho it's undoubtedly part of their sound) the heaviness they create is more reminiscint of the suffocating heaviness of something like early Swans rather than the more macho heavy for heavy's sake of a lot of more metal type bands and i can't tell you how spine meltingly gorgeous the more "epic"/melodic vocalled parts are! I can't say enough good things about this band go check em out as they are really obscure and you can download these and play them to your heavily bearded, bespectacled, trucker cap, rucksack and specs wearing scenester mates and watch their faces fucking drop cos they never got onto this band first (Cos anyone "In The Know" about this type of music I've mentioned them to has never fucking heard of them)!  ENJOY....

Momentum

Momentum Are a UK band who were supposedly formed from the ashes of Fall Of Efrafa (See Post HERE ) But I can't find any evidence to support that however I think they do contain members of Light Bearer maybe that means something to you? I'm aware of Light Bearer but never got round to listening to them yet! Anyway Momentum have released 2 albums and have now decided to break up or at least they are saying that 2nd album "Herbivore" is their last! It's a shame really because these guys are blistering vegan hardcore!  These albums (esp "Whetting...") are not a million miles away from the sounds coming from the newer bands in the crust scene fast almost d-beats, good chunky riffing overlaid with great melodies that bring to mind some of the better bands of the melodic hardcore style, however the vocal style and the fact that the guitars aren't quite as thick, heavy and downtuned as "crust" type bands firmly pushes them towards a more hardcore sound, generally i'm not a big fan of modern hardcore but these guys are a real exceptionn as they don't fall the usual generic boring rigid hardcore format, don't be put off by the fact i use the words melody or melodic becuse this is fast and intense stuff maybe comparable to someone like The Holy Mountain (see HERE) If you're into modern crust type music chances are you will like this as much as i do if you're more into your hardcore you could do a helluva lot worse than give these guys a spin! I'm sick of genre-ising here just check these guys out they gave both their albums away free to download pre-release and the link i've given for 1st album "Whetting..." is their link the one for "Herbivore" is mine! Go get em TRUST me you will not be dissapointed.

Fall Of Efrafa

Fall of Efrafa were a concept based hardcore/metal band from Brighton UK who existed from 2006 - 2009 They released a trilogy of albums as well as a split 12" and a rework/remix 12". I say concept based because Their trilogy of albums is called "The Warren Of Snares Trilogy" and the lyrical themes and concept draw heavily from Richard Adams book "Watership Down" amplifying the political overtones of his writing with their own takes on authoritarianism and social hierarchy, adding atheist & vegan themes and more. So... the music, what you get is some intense, heavy and political stuff I tend to put these guys in the same sorta bracket as the likes of Neurosis or Cult of luna or bands like that however there is a far more hardcore element highly prevelant in their music which along with the politics and the sheer heaviness of the band has won them many fans from the "crust" scene (I actually bought one of their CD's from anarcho distro Active dsitribution so if you know Active you'll know that this is no run of the mill metal type shit otherwise they wouldn't stock it.) This is dark heavy and at times epic music it evokes very sombre moods at times and deals with it's themes in an intelligent and refreshingingly original way you'll find plenty of hardcore and touches of post rock and sludge. These guys are not an easy listen and it's certainly not something that will just wash over you whilst i have said it eveokes sombre moods some of the more "Soaring" passages of the music are truly beautiful and the occasional use of strings is a welcome addition without sounding too trite.Along with the faster hardcore the longer tracks show great use of dynamics and i would certainly say the members are very good musicians and write and arrange the music well. On a personal note i heard these guys I just totally loved what they do and when i saw their packaging and read the lyrics it all came together really well and they have been a huge fave ever since
So what i'm giving you here amounts to their whole discography. the first file is the Fall of Efrafa Demo + the +  indicates that to save me uploading 3 seperate files i have put together their demo plus their 12 min track from their split 12" with Down To Agony and the ultra rare "Tharn" 12" which is a 15 min rework/remix of their track "Dominion Theology" by an artist called Paper Aeroplane, I don't generally like remixes when it's a heavy band but this remix/rework is brilliantly handled and takes nothing away from the power or heaviness of the original, so that's your first lot so next up is the 3 albums that make up the "Warren Of Snares" trilogy first Up is "Owsla" from 2006 which contains re-recordings of all 4 tracks from the demo plus an short intro and an short interlude I will however say the album is far superior to the demo i only include the demo in this post for the sake of making this post a complete discography.Next up is "Elil" from 2007 this is a MIGHTY album 3 tracks 20 + minutes each in length this is where you start to see them develop as a band the length of the songs allows for some beautiful instrumental and semi - acoustic passages along with the utterly crushing heaviness and sheer anguish being displayed! Lastly we have 3rd and final album " Inle' " this album is a 79 minute epic containing both shorter and longer length songs mixing the hardcore edge with the slower heavier passages and with great building parts all blended perfectly, the best way i can sorta describe what these guys do over the 3 albums is Imagine if Godspeed you Black Emperor or Mogwai were to have a jam session with someone like say Dystopia it might sound a little like this,however this is well written and original music not just mere borrowing of other bands riffs/styles!
The 3 albums and the Split 12" are all taken from my own CD's so ripped at 320kbps for best quality, The Demo & "Tharn" are taken from net downloads and are excellent quality,I'm sorry if I'm not doing a good job of describing this band but I'm guessing not many people read these blurbs anyway and probably come to find the music through file search engines or google but if anything i've said even remotely strikes a chord then you must download this essential, unique and highly missed band (I have heard that members went on to form vegan melodic crust/hardcore band Momentum I'll do a post on them and link you up with their 2 albums later!) BORN DEAD ICONS

I mentioned Born Dead Icons in my post on the members last project Complications (see HERE ) so i thought it was time for a  post on them! Born Dead Icons were a Canadian band who existed from 1999 to 2003 and were one of the best and most original bands to come out of the "crust" punk scene I actually hesitate to call them crust because they had quite an original sound, Debut album "Work" contained re-recordings of their debut EP "A Part Of Something Larger Than Ourselves" & songs from their demo plus a few new songs with much better production than those releases (I haven't uploaded "A Part..." EP as the production is terrible quality even the band were very unhappy with it and the re-recordings on "Work" are far superior) The album is just great rarely going above mid paced there's hints at all their influences on there touches of Amebix, Motorhead,Nausea etc with a thick and heavy production which really brings their sound together, whilst there are hints of other bands they really do have their own sound adding some unusual melodies to the powerful heavy sound they have and their vocalist has a unique style with his French Candian accent which also made them stand out.

So after purchasing the amazing "Work" album i was desperate for more Born Dead Icons so couldn't wait for a second album in the meantime they released the excellent "Modern Plague" EP 4 tracks of Born Dead Icons sound albeit maybe a bit cleaner sounding,one of which was a great cover of the excellent Wipers track "Doomtown". So at this time 2002 there was not so much easy internet access like there is now but one of my friends went to the US on tour with his band and came back with a copy of their 2nd album "Salvation On The Knees" which i had no idea was even out and I could not wait to snatch it off him and copy it which i did however I was initially dissapointed, even though the "Modern Plague" EP had hinted at a bit of a change in sound, the thick heavy sound of "Work" had been replaced with a much less distorted and much "lighter"guitar sound and the melodies had come more to the fore rather than the brutal riffage of the 1st album also the vocals had become a bit more pronounced and less growled (whilst still havuing the unique style) and overall i felt it had more of a "classic" American hardcore influence (think early Agent Orange, Adolescents,Wipers early Husker Du etc mixed in with the crust sound) anyway it took me a while to get into this album because i had loved the heavy sound of the debut album but I now see it for the utterly classic and original piece of music it is, they are no less heavy or chunky in their riffing style it's just that the guitars are cleaner and there is more melody and less ridin the "E" chord and they have obviously developed as musicians in the interim between albums as bands do with touring and practice I was just being a stubborn pigheaded crust fan at the time and wanted them to stay the same!!!

Third and final album "Ruins" was a bit of a surprise when i heard it because I had expected them to continue to become more melodic however "Ruins" whilst obviously even more musically accomplished than "Salvation..." combines the heaviness of the first album with the melody and musicianship of the second making for a refreshing and amazing listen, there are even more melodious parts on this album than the previous but the vocal style and production have got a little dirtier again leaning more towards the sound of the 1st album. however the short instrumental title track even reminds me of the melodies of good "77" era punk albeit much heavier! This really is the perfect combination of the 2 preceding albums and is a fitting end to a guttingly short history!

So your links, Firstly you get "New Scream Industry" ripped from my 10" vinyl this is the vinyl version of their first demo it's fairly decent quality for a demo and actually way better quality than the debut 7" . "Part of Something..." I mentioned before and contains 2 tracks not re-recorded for "Work" . I've then given you the three albums mentioned above and also the "Modren Plague" EP the first 2 albums are ripped from my own CD's at 320kbps the "Modern Plague" EP is at 320kbps but is ripped from vinyl it is VERY good quality though. "Ruins" I don't own on CD but the file is taken from a decent vinyl rip.

This is not a discography as unfortunately they did a split EP with a band called Coma in 2002 and another EP called "Unlearn" in 2003 but unfortunately I had no record player by then so I've never heard or owned them and they are unavailable for download anywhere! and i also haven't put up their debut EP because it's atrocious quality as i said above! I just discovered this GREAT Swedish band today I saw them mentioned on Misantropic's Facebook page (see my post on them HERE ) so went to see if they had a bandcamp page and they did, and they are offering their 4 track demo from last year for free. And the demo is amazing this is epic crust with the emphasis on EPIC I haven't heard the like of this since Axegrinder's "Rise Of The Serpent Men", Filth Of Mankind (See my post on them HERE) or the best of Amebix! It's only 4 tracks but clocks in at 26 minutes, it is a demo recording but the quality is really good! I cannot hurry you along to get this quickly enough it's an amazingly accomplished demo not a D-beat in sight this heavy and well written demo really takes you on a journey and with a song title like the near 10 minute "With My Dying Breath I Curse This World...Another Sun Will Rise" I'm sure you get the idea?? I'm really excited on discovering this as much as i love the full on fast heavy wall of brutality crust it's really refreshing to hear a band lower the pace a little and use dynamics so well in building the music up and bringing it down and building it again! as i've said I can only describe this as EPIC a lot of bands are compared to the likes of Axegrinder or Amebix and it's more often than not a valid comparison but these guys TRULY are the successors to that sound and bringing their own style to it as well and definitely streets ahead of all the other type of bands doing this sort of slow/mid paced crust type music!!!!! go get it free from bandcamp now or you're missing out on a REALLY fucking amazing band that I expect to be hearing big things from soon!

MISANTROPIC

Misantropic are a female fronted 5 piece Swedish fast heavy crust/metal band with a mini album and a split 7" out so far, their bassist was in another band called  Personkrets 3.1 who i have never heard of but they did a split 7" with Swede crust titans Human Waste other than that they would seem to be a totally "new" band which is pretty cool! I downloaded both their releases and it would seem that female vocalist Gerda is a new addition to the band because the 2 songs on the split EP are also on the mini album but in different versions, as from listening to the split it sounds like a male voice.
My knowledge on this band is lacking as though the split EP & Mini LP are from 2009 and 2011 respectively I only became aware of them this week because someone posted a video on my F/B page!(Cheers David Insurrection) I'm gutted because I have listened to little else since I got it! This is some RAGING fast crust but with a very slight death metal  influence (when i say "death" metal think old school like Entombed or Benediction and not the shit with corpse gargling vocals and repetitive drum blasts) plus some tight double bass drumming here and there and Vocalist Gerda is one of the best female vocalists I've ever heard in ages, the sound is Immense great production throughout everything is perfectly clear and level nothing is buried in the mix!
A good comparison for these guys would maybe be the Night Nurse demo I posted up a while back (HERE) which is also fucking raging, but these guys even leave the awesome Night Nurse in the dust!! I hate to keep saying this about female fronted crust bands but again this has Sacrilege written all over it especially in the vocals it's been wrecking my head while listening to it who Gerda sounds like and well it is Tam from Sacrilege absolutely no doubt in my mind! If you think I'm being lazy with the Sacrilege comparisons all the time and lacking female references then you're probably right but shit download it yourself and you'll see what I mean! I cannot recommend this band highly enough they absolutely fucking DESTROY! Every piece of the mini album the songs, production,vocals,guitar,drums & bass every single bit of it hit's the fucking nail squarely on the head for me utterly jaw dropping and the best "heavy" release i've heard so far this year! Go Go Go NOWWW!!!!

BRIT METAL PT 2

Helvis were a UK band that existed from 1998 - 2002 they did one album "Reverend The Sacrifice" and one EP "Genocider" and featured future and ex members of Black Eye Riot, Urko, Iron Monkey, Geriatric Unit, Hard To Swallow, Acrimony, Sigirya just to name but a few! and featured famous UKHC stalwart Bloody Kev on vocals who i think has been in every UK hardcore and metal band! Anyway these guys are another overlooked gem I always avoided them cos of the name as I FUCKIN DESPISE ELVIS and cos i thought they'd be one of those rockabilly punk bands HA! how wrong can you be! This is some seriously fucking chunky rocking hardcore metal these guys would've fitted easily on the bill with the likes of Iron Monkey, Raging Speedhorn or Charger (Bloody Kev would later replace Frank Regan in Raging Speedhorn!) Featuring Rat from The Varukers on Helvis cover of their "Nothings Changed" you know this is a metal band with their roots in crust and hardcore! I'm not gonna blab anymore about this this is a great album that swings from Fast and heavy d-beat to great big slabs of monolithic Early Sabbath style riffage!Thick heavy guitars and great production throughout all of it delivered with agression and sheer bloody mindedness! If even one of the band names I mention in this post mean owt to you you should be on your way to downloading this right now! A BEAST of an album!

I have given you a 320kbps rip of their one and only album "Reverend The Sacrifice" and I've also stuck debut EP "Genocider" (Pictured above) in the file as that's their entire discography. "Genocider" is taken from a vinyl rip but it's good quality and you have to hear the utterly nuts closing track "Alright Boys" which features cut ups of answerphone messages from 2 insane Venom fans left for someone involved with Venom i assume cut up and laid over some music the guys making the calls are nuts and need locking up it's hilarious! Anyway enjoy this as it's another overlooked GEM if you're not grinding your teeth and smashing your head into the stereo by the time you're through the first song you're defo reading the wrong blog! An any band who puts Johnny Cash givin the finger on their record is fucking cool END OF!

BRIT METAL Pt 1 - DUKES OF NOTHING

                                                            

So to start my Brit metal post I thought i'd give you one of my favourites Dukes Of Nothing, These guys were a short lived band formed by 3/5 of the mighty Iron Monkey : Doug Dalziel, Dean Berry & Stuart O'Hara and featured current Turbonegro vocalist Tony Sylvester (Pictured above L Before? and R After? DON i did the pictures for a laugh as i was looking for a band photo but came across these and well it was an "organic" process!) he's been a regular fixture on the scene for a long time and I've see him manning the merch desk all 3 times I've seen Neurosis in London so he's obviously supplementing his income from Turbonegro! 

Anyways Dukes Of Nothing did 2 singles and a mini album and that was them done but these guys seriously fucking rocked they play some of the dirtiest biker/beard/trucker/ metal you're ever likely to hear take a slab of Motorhead speed and aggro a chunk of redneck rock ala Nashville Pussy or Antiseen throw in some seriously dirty sludgy sounds like Saint Vitus, Crowbar, Melvins etc add some lyrics about Trucks, Sulphate & broken relationships sung by an angry bear and you come out with Dukes Of Nothing! These guys are great and despite my comments on "sludgy" that is definitely a nod to their sound not their speed! This is great raw HEAVY loud and fucking dirty M-E-T-A-L! just how it should be done by hairy ugly gnarly tattooed bastards! You get the picture....

So they did a 7" called "Saxon Action" then a mini album "War & Wine" and finished with another 7" on Southern Lord called "Half Evil" (Backed with a cover of G.G. Allin's "Bastard Son"). The mini album originally came out on defunct British label Eccentric Man but was later picked up and remstered/reissued by Tortuga Records (Hydra Head sub label home of the likes of Old Man Gloom & 5ive) with the  "Saxon Action" 7" tacked on as bonus tracks and that's what you get here I've seprated and retagged "Saxon.." 7" and put "War & Wine" back in it's original running order both ripped from my CD's at 320kbps. the  "Half Evil" 7" however has never seen release on CD (Except for on a dbl CD british comp called "Louder than The Crowd" which i bought to get "Half Evil" on CD turns out they had sourced it from a vinyl rip anyway!!!) so  I've given you it here ripped from my own vinyl version it is a little crackly etc but like i said it's fucking dirty gnarly metal so it doesn't detract from your enjoyment one bit! They are all wrapped up in the one file but when you extract it it you'll find seperate folders containing the 7"'s and the mini album all tagged with artwork attached! Enjoy!
